Modern life surely does take a toll on the human body. The amount that we have to try and pack into any given day is often overwhelming and we find ourselves sleeping less and working longer hours as we try and balance our jobs with our family responsibilities and our dwindling social life. One of the first things to go is our exercise regime and we make this situation worse by turning to convenience foods, in the mistaken belief that we do not have time to prepare a good diet. Combine poor nutrition with a lack of exercise and it’s not surprising that strains and stresses start to appear and our body starts to break down. Not surprisingly, adrenal fatigue is a very common condition, even though it is poorly diagnosed and linked to the adrenal glands, very small organs located near the kidneys, of which we ask a great deal. These organs can start to fail after many years of unhealthy scheduling and unsustainable lifestyle habits.
Remember that our body developed over the centuries according to very basic functions and primitive needs. All we needed to do, primarily, was to eat, sleep and fight if needed. Today is a much different story, especially when you consider that we eat very nutritionally deficient foods, bring so many toxins into our bodies and don’t repair ourselves correctly by sleeping as we should. Because of these extra demands, if we are to survive we should be demanding even more sleep and greater nutrition.
Before we know it, chronic fatigue begins. The adrenal glands are not able to help us handle stress or regulate our blood sugar. Stress hormones create an imbalance, our thyroid, nervous system and brain function is impaired and as our immunity is compromised, we are so vulnerable. We are unable to regenerate our adrenal glands due to lack of sleep; with such a poor diet, food sensitivities result in hormonal imbalance and an inability to stop inflammation and fend off attacks.
Most people will not notice these symptoms, certainly not enough to look into them further. They may feel run down, but attribute this to the hectic lifestyle and think it is just a consequence of the way that life is, these days. They do not recognize their low levels of energy as a problem and think that if they eat a quick, convenient, “junk” meal or dive into the gym for 30 minutes that this will be okay, not realizing that they are just putting even more strain on their adrenal glands.
One of the most important building blocks for hormone composition in the body is pregnolone. Whenever we are overstressed or run down, our body uses pregnolone to make cortisol, so we can handle stress. However, it appears that excess cortisol can be “stolen” when the body is overstressed, from testosterone or DHEA, which adds additional problems on top of an already aggravated situation.
What can you do? Essentially, slow down, make sure that you go to sleep and wake up in harmony with the cycles of the sun, eat only a very highly nutritious diet and exercise regularly. Is this too much to ask, or too difficult?

How To Eradicate Stress
I have always struggled to live a stress-free life. I worry about almost every aspect of life and living this way has caused me a lot of problems including various bouts of ill health from time to time. I needed to find a way of coping with and reducing the amount of stress in my life and in this article I write about how I have managed to achieve this.
So what do I stress about? Well I suppose it is anything and everything. Women and my relationships with them; my financial position - having a lack of money and worrying about how I am going to be able to pay the bills etc. I also have anxiety over my career and my personal friendships. For whatever reason I also used to worry about what other people thought of me.
I am the kind of person who is classed as a thinker. I will be the first to admit that I over-think at times; some people would go as far as to call me a stress-head - others, no doubt, see me as some sort of freak. This thinking is very much in a negative manner and is a cycle which I have found hard to break.
About a year ago I was invited to appear on a national radio show to talk about my occupation which is providing an affordable DVD duplication service and offering SEO specialist advice, and also strangely enough helping an organisation to do with fostering solutions. I was due to talk live on this radio program at around 2pm. All morning as was my way of course, I was thinking and worrying about how I would come across to other people. I was afraid that I would make a fool of myself and would sound like a bit of an idiot. I also, for whatever reason, started to stress about whether I would be able to remember, under the amount of pressure that I was likely be under, the important aspects of my occupation which people would be interested in.
I was getting myself into a bit of a state and even thought about phoning up to cancel the interview. I then called up a good friend of mine who has always provided me with sound advice. I explained about the radio show and about my fears. He advised me to think in a much more positive way about the interview and to start some deep breathing exercises. It would, he continued, be a chance to promote my own services and therefore was something to be grateful for.
He advised me that what I needed to do was to keep myself busy. If I am very busy, I would not have any time to think in my usual negative way. He informed me that my main problem was that I had too much time on my hands, which results in me spending far too much time thinking and worrying.
This is something I had realised a few years before but had in truth not acted on. I thought about what my friend had said and then decided to get stuck into some much needed gardening. Have a guess what? I managed to do very well on the radio; I even enjoyed it.

Understanding a Child’s Stresses and Anxieties
As a parent it is important that we understand what potential problems our child has. Most children have certain things that they worry about or even fear. In this article, I write about the types of fears that this might be and about how we can help our children to cope and to get through life in the best possible and stress-free way.
I am by now a child social worker and what I write within this article is just my own personal opinion. I actually offer a upvc front door service; I am also involved with a company that enables people to make cheap calls and on a weekend I offer personal injury claims advice - rather busy as you can see!
The majority of children are more than capable of being able to pick up on the anxieties of their parents. They may hear arguments about money and can then start to worry themselves about the financial situation their family may be in. I am a parent myself and try where possible to only discuss serious issues with my partner when the children are out or are asleep. I am quick to re-assure my own child if I am of the opinion that he has overheard a conversation that in truth I would have preferred he had not listened to.
Children may also worry that their parents may break up and that they will end up living apart. They will no doubt hear that this has happened to their friends and may wonder and stress about how their lives would change if this happened to them.
My children have told me that they worry and that they fear that one of their parents may die in the near future. It is quite difficult to explain to them that this is unlikely to happen as it obviously could. I try and laugh it off which may not be the best policy, by stating that I am still very young and that I have no plans to leave this planet in the near future. I explain to them the age that the average male will live to in our country and that normally, I hope, makes them feel better.
Another form of stress and anxiety for many children, is of course, attending school. Will they be able to cope and understand the work? Will they be able to obtain a good examination mark and a good report? Will they be able to make their parents proud of them? I have told my own children not to worry about these issues and to just try their best.
Socialising and meeting friends can also bring its own tensions. I am sure that we all remember our own childhoods and the fact that we regularly break friends but that we normally, eventually, make up again. It can be quite stressful when friends have a disagreement or argument. When this happens to my children, I make a point of saying that it has been the fourth time in a month that you and Amy as an example, have had a falling out. Your sure to make friends again in the near future.
As children get a bit older there is then the challenge of meeting a member of the opposite sex. We all know the problems and strains that this can bring. At this time I think it is just a matter of being there for your children and getting them through these difficult years the best and easiest way possible.

Everyone knows that self-care takes a back seat whenever we become anxious and tense. Countless college students can attest to this, as they sit in the library surrounded by pizza boxes and gallons of soda, desperately trying to pull an all-nighter before that term paper is due. Many people do not realize the long term effects of stress.
When you realize you are stressed the first thing is to stop and think about your diet. Since many of us are often too busy to cook and eat a well-balanced meal, we often resort to fast foods or high-calorie snacks. If you eat snacks you will find that after the quick carbohydrate burst wears off you crash. The over consumption of unhealthy foods promotes obesity but can also lead to high blood pressure and blood sugar levels. This deadly circle will continue to repeat over and over again once it starts.
The wear and tear of stress can also sabotage relationships by leading to a lack of time spent with one’s partner, possible sexual dysfunction, and marital discord. If both husband and wife in a marriage have stressful jobs, the chances of divorce are much higher.
Momentary periods of stress could potentially lead to a day lost to sleep now and then; however, extended time frames of paralyzing burdens along with total weariness has the potential to create sleeping disturbances. Unable to fall asleep at night, or wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat. People may find that suddenly they lie in bed worrying. If you don’t get good quality sleep the night before, you’ll be more likely to make mistakes the next day and you won’t have what it takes to meet life’s challenges with the necessary mental acuity.
Continuous anxiety certainly has a negative effect on your mental health. Everyday stresses, both familial and work-related, can lead to anxiety and depression, which can be extremely detrimental to both the sufferers and their loved ones. It is essential that you get help from family, and ideally from trained professionals, if you find you’ve lost interest in things you formerly loved, have guilt about the way you’re feeling, or have suicidal thoughts.
To stop more serious complications from stress is to deal with it when it first arises. There are many ways to alleviate the pressure from a stressful job including, 30 minutes of exercise daily, family mealtimes , and the occasional day off from work to relax. The key is finding something that works for you, and then making it a priority. Don’t take your health for granted, it is a very important aspect of your life.
Especially if you find you are struggling under the weight of your load, let someone know! All good resources to utilize like friends, counselors, doctors, clergy persons and family. Call a hotline when you feel there’s no one you can talk to, as these are available 24/7 to help people just like you.

Fight or Fright Reaction and Stress.
Consider these three different scenarios.
A sales rep is having a difficult time during the recession. His recent records show poor sales. He is about to meet an important, big new client who could be his saviour. Success will decide whether he still has a job or not.
A man is desperately and madly in love with this attractive and popular woman. To him there is no future without her but she is popular an other men are attracted to her. The table is set for two, the ring is in his hand and the red roses lie near by. She is due any minute and he will go down on his knees and and he does not know what her answer will be.
Late at night a woman is walking home. The streets are poorly lit. Suddenly she hears footsteps ahead of her. She can see a group of people wearing hoodies coming towards her. She now hears footsteps behind her. Turning around, she sees some young people walking towards her.
In all three situations a person becomes very alert and focussed even though potential danger is only in one of these scenarios. This is the fight and fright reaction.
This is a reaction in humans and animals that developed a long time ago to protect us from life threatening dangers. In this reaction, the brain triggers the release of the hormones adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisone. These hormones cause a remarkable change in the body.
The heart rate speeds up, the breathing become faster and deeper, the mouth becomes dry, the pupils dilate, skin becomes cold and clammy and hairs on the back of the neck stand up.
You may even want to vomit, open your bowels or urinate. This is the brain trying to make you lighter and move faster during ‘flight’.
These changes are preparing the body for action. You are in a state of heightened awareness. All your senses are sharpened. Your sense of smell, sight and hearing are all sharpened. Your body is primed and ready to go.
Your rapidly beating heart pumps more blood to the brain and the muscles. By breathing faster and deeper, more oxygen is transported by the blood to the muscles and brain. In addition blood is shunted away temporarily from other vital organs such as the gut, the kidneys and the immune system to make more blood available to supply the muscles.
The fight and fright reaction is primeval, developed in early humans to survive amongst dangerous reptiles and mammals. Unfortunately the brain cannot differentiate between real and percieved dangers or threats. The reaction is the same.
In all three scenarios above, the fight or fright reaction is triggered.
Panic attacks are severe episodes of the fight or fright reaction and, during an attack, to the individual the threat or danger is very real. Rational thoughts go out the window and there is nothing to fight and no where to run to.
In stress, the fight or flight reaction is triggered even thought there is no threat to our lives and can harm the body. Persistent stress caqn cause disease.
Knowing the effects of the fight or fright reaction on stress will help you make some sense about the symptoms of stress you experience with stress.
