Three Uncomplicated, Cheap Ways To Treat Neck Pain At Home

Those who have experienced neck pain at one time or another really understand the meaning of the saying “a pain in the neck.”  Even if the pain isn’t debilitating, it can result in chronic fatigue and may even lead to pain in other parts of the body.  The pain can also radiate to other parts of the upper body.  Overall, it just makes life in general less enjoyable.

Natural neck pain treatment methods such as acupuncture, massage and chiropractic adjustments can go a long way in relieving the pain.  But it’s also unrealistic to think that a sufferer can visit a health practitioner every day or even every week for relief.  What can such sufferers do at home for neck pain treatment instead to minimize and control pain in between such visits?

There are, in fact, a number of strategies and neck pain relief products that sufferers can treat themselves with between practitioner treatments.  These three are simple, easy and minimally expensive (or even free):

1) Neck exercises/stretches: Neck pain develops or increases when the spine is held in a stationary or rigid position for too long a period of time.  Engaging in regular neck exercises can alleviate pain and keep it from coming back.

2) Sleeping with a cervical pillow at night: Also referred to as “orthopedic pillows,” cervical pillows, which are made from foam, are cut and shaped to properly support the spine’s natural curve.  Proper use of a cervical pillow ensures that your spine remains aligned all night long.  The result for most users is a significant decrease in, and sometimes even elimination of, neck pain.

3) Application of heat: Moderate heat is an effective way to loosen up tightened muscles.  Applying a heated compress two or three times a day to the area leads to significant improvement for many sufferers.  Moist or dry heat can be applied, depending on what works best for you.
