There are 3 models of airsoft guns available, some low quality and of course the high end models, all of which use different mechanisms to make the guns fire.

Spring Airsoft Guns

The spring models are powered by a spring. Because they work off a spring, a manual cock of the firing mechanism is required with each shot that is taken. Because these are very basic models they are cheaper than the electric and gas types and have less power. They are great for beginners.

Gas Airsoft Models

Gas powered air soft guns are also known as GBB, they operate by inserting cartridges of CFC-free gas into the butt of the gun which propels the plastic BBs. They are heavier and harder to handle than the other two types. The advantage of them is that they provide a semi auto feel when shooting.

Electric Airsoft Guns

Electric airsoft guns, otherwise known as AEG, use electricity to power a motor that shoots out the plastic BB bullets. Disposable batteries are usually required for these models and some come with rechargeable ones. They are very popular, especially with advanced hobbyists because they can fire up to a 1000 rounds per minute.

They are the most durable of all models. One of the reasons that they are so popular is they provide for very fast reloads of BB’s and super quick shots. They are also very realistic. One of the most popular models of electric airsoft gun is the AK-47, which is both auto and semi-auto firing.
